Exhibition "Art and Football at the German Parliament"
On the occasion of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™, the German Parliament will present the exhibition "Art and Football at the German Parliament". The exhibtion will be shown at the Art Space of the German Parliament at the Marie-Elisabeth-Lueders-House from June 1st to July 10th, 2006. It will be opened by the Vice President of the German Parliament, Wolfgang Thierse, with the attendance of the President of the World Cup Organising Committee Germany, Franz Beckenbauer, on June 1st 2006 at 6 p.m.
The show will feature a previously unpublished portrait of Franz Beckenbauer made by the Swiss photographer and video artist Annelies Strba. Franz Beckenbauer will unveil the portrait at the opening on June 1st. The portrait shows Beckenbauer in the early years of his staggering career and is based on a photography taken of Beckenbauer during the 1974 FIFA World Cup, when Beckenbauer's team won the World Cup Trophy. Strba's portrait stands in line with Andy Warhol's Beckenbauer image of 1977.
The Strba portrait has been issued in a limited edition. The revenues of the edition will go to the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation whose purpose is to provide financial and ideal aid to persons who are mentally or physically disabled or who have come in need guiltlessly. For more information on the Foundation, please visit www.beckenbauer-stiftung.de.
